Printmaker, Alison Reed has created a marvellous menagerie of animals and birds . Her empathy with them is evident in her witty black and white etchings, woodcuts, linocuts and screen-printing.
"I am a farmer's daughter - that's why I love animals. I used to spend my time outside with the cows, chickens, cats and a dog - not an average farm dog, a dachshund! I was the youngest in the family, with an older brother and sister, so the animals were my substitute friends of sorts.'
'I like the hands-on nature of producing a plate and its immediacy. I don't keep highly detailed sketchbooks, as I use the plate rather than paper to work out ideas. I think this is why my images are quirky, if I plan too much I find this is often lost"
