"Colour can be a distraction for me and so I work from photographic images to produce monochromatic drawings in charcoal or graphite. These materials help me achieve the wonderful contrasts of light and dark that I see in the landscape; working to create an atmosphere or mood rather than an exact reproduction. I often focus on trees, not necessarily because that is always my intention, but because that is what I am invariably drawn to and what excites me in the landscape around me.""
