Simon Shaw studied at Wirral College of Art and Design and then Braintree College in Essex.
After Employment as a Ceramicist in several UK companies in 1988 he established his own workshop in his native Merseyside. He continued to produce thrown tin-glazed tableware until 1995 whilst lecturing on a part-time basis at Wirral Metropolitan College.
From 1995 until mid 1997 he produced ceramics from a workshop in Bermuda, before returning to re-establish his workshop in Merseyside. The work is thrown in stoneware, earthenware, porcelain and raku clay combinations, with turning kept to a minimum. The work is then fired to Cone 5.
The main emphasis is on form, using dry, matt and textured glazes to enhance the work and to give it an ageless quality.
